Kind-hearted bobbies made sure a little boy's birthday wasn't ruined after his presents were stolen from his mother's car. The distraught mum rang police after thieves broke into her car and stole gifts she'd been storing in the vehicle ahead of her son's birthday the next day.

A GMP call handler who took the mum's report wanted to do something extra to help. Police officers had a whip-round and managed to raise £150 within 10 minutes; enough to buy replacement presents, a cake and birthday card from a nearby supermarket.

Two officers then surprised the mum and son when they delivered the presents on his birthday the next day. A photograph shared by GMP on social media shows the beaming little boy and his mum with the replacement gifts.
