According to Department of Work and Pension (DWP) statistics over 13,000 people are receiving Personal Independence Payments (PIP) with their primary condition being an infectious disease.
This disability benefit offers a range of financial support depending on how much the condition impacts an applicant’s life, from £114 up to £737 per month.
Every successful applicant’s medical condition is recorded on the PIP Computer System and as of February 2023, there are eight total subcategories under the infectious diseases category.
These are four specific infectious diseases and four groups of diseases such as bacterial, viral (not including hepatitis and poliomyelitis), other infectious diseases and protozoal infections.
