A 22-year-old has reportedly woken up from a coma after a buggy overturned in a horrific crash in Ayia Napa. Ellie Horrocks, from Westhoughton, was rushed to hospital after the incident in the popular resort on Monday (June 26).
Doctors put her into a medically-induced coma after she suffered a serious head injury and fractures to her spinal cord and clavicle in the collision.
Her auntie previously told the M.E.N that Ellie, who had moved to Cyprus in May to work in a bar, had hired a buggy to go and see the sunset on another part of the resort when she was forced to swerve to avoid an oncoming car, causing the buggy to overturn. Ellie's mum Leanne immediately set up a fundraising page to help towards the cost of an air ambulance to fly her home, estimated to be around £60,000.
In a new public update on Monday (July 3), the family has announced Ellie is 'progressing' and has woken up from her coma, but still has 'a long road to recovery'.
