Zoe Ball will return to BBC Radio 2 with a new weekly show, the broadcaster has announced. Zoe left her breakfast show last year, with Scott Mills later taking over.

She will host a new weekly show from May and two specials including a BBC TV show celebrating Elaine Paige’s 60-year career in showbusiness.

Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said: “Zoe is one of the UK’s most-loved presenters, so I’m thrilled to announce that she has a new home on Radio 2 on Saturday lunchtimes, plus she’ll be hosting various specials for us throughout the year.” The BBC has said comedian Rob Beckett will step down from his Sunday 5pm to 7pm show in April.

Beckett, who took over the programme full-time following the departure of Paul O’Grady, will continue to appear on Radio 2 as a cover presenter.
