Zander Clark admits it was nice to receive a warm reception from St Johnstone’s support on Wednesday night. The Scotland international, ironically, made his first competitive start for new club Hearts against Saints and left with the bragging rights thanks to a 3-2 win.Clark came through the youth ranks at McDiarmid Park and went on to become a cup double-winning legend. His opportunity on Wednesday arose after fellow Jambos goalkeeper Craig Gordon suffered a gutting double leg break last week.“It’s weird how football throws these scenarios up,” Clark said, once again speaking in the Main Stand at McDiarmid Park.“Every day going into training you are training in case that opportunity arises to get in and get a shot.“To get a full start, it probably was written in the stars that it would be here.“It’s a place that I’ve got great memories of and it was nice to get back out and get a great reception from the St Johnstone fans and Hearts fans.”Clark initially managed to work his way into the Scotland squad while at Saints and he hopes there is plenty of international experience ahead of him.“Obviously it will be in the back of my mind,” he said. “If I can go in at club level and do the best I can and it opens up that opportunity for me then that’s great.“It’s one of those where I am always focused on the next game and making sure I can go in and do well.
