Zac Efron‘s “minor swimming incident” in Ibiza appears to have been caused by a dive gone wrong, according to a new report. The actor, 36, was hospitalized on Friday, August 2, after an early morning swim with friends in the pool at the villa where he was staying.
Described at the time only as a “swimming incident,” TMZ now claims that Efron hit the bottom of the pool and ingested “a large amount of water into his lungs.”The outlet said that Efron showed signs of distress and was helped out of the pool by two individuals who worked as onsite security at the villa.
Efron was transported to a local hospital as a “precautionary measure.”The “High School Musical” star reportedly got an x-ray that revealed there was no longer any water in his lungs.
Despite being allegedly cleared for release only a couple hours after he was admitted, the actor stayed for some time longer to avoid getting photographed by paparazzi who caught word of his hospitalization and subsequently descended upon the hospital.Efron’s rep previously confirmed to People that he was released from a local hospital on Saturday morning. The “Down to Earth” host assured concerned fans that he was doing well in a post on Sunday, August 4, just one day after the incident.
