A young mum who lost her leg in a horror hit-and-run crash is suing the driver for £1m to pay for a lifetime of prosthetics.
Kerrie Lavery, 25, suffered a life-changing injury, when Thomas Granger, 47, ploughed his BMW into her at 81mph as she walked home from a charity event near Clydebank, Dunbartonshire on October 2, 2021.Kerrie’s right leg was instantly severed in the collision.
Her friend Alanah Boyle, 29, also suffered a fractured pelvis as she was struck while walking arm-in-arm with Kerrie.Granger was caged for 33 months and banned from roads for seven years in May.Lawyers raised a claim for compensation at the Court of Session earlier this month.Digby Brown, who represents Kerrie, says the sum will cover the cost of a lifetime of prosthetics and compensation for the impact to her personal and working life, and lost earrings.Speaking on behalf of Kerrie, a Digby Brown spokesperson said: “For three years Kerrie has shown a strength few others can comprehend and she has shown remarkable resilience and positivity throughout her recovery.“The loss of a limb is a truly life-changing injury and it is only right that an affected person gets the support, treatment and compensation they deserve – especially when that injury was the fault of someone else.“This is why a court action has now been raised on Kerrie’s behalf and we will continue to support her to ensure she accesses the best care and most positive future possible.”In a victim impact statement released through the law firm, Kerry, from Drumchapel said she was trying to lead a normal life.
