A young man was killed and his younger brother seriously injured after the car they were in smashed into a brick wall. Thomas Grainger, 22, had got behind the wheel of the vehicle after returning home from a party in the early hours of April 2 of last year.

It is believed the labourer was on his way back to the scene where he had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation earlier that evening.

However, as he drove along Barton Road in Torquay, Devon, he lost control on a slight left-hand bend, causing the vehicle to cross the carriageway and hit pillars and a brick wall before landing on its roof in a resident's garden.
