A Wigan company has been fined after making 'persistent' and 'aggressive' spam calls that attempted to capitalise on the pandemic.

Pinnacle Life has been ordered to pay £80,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a year-long unlawful spam phone call campaign.

The company made nearly 48,000 illegal calls between May 2021 and May 2022, attempting to sell life insurance products. Members of the public reported sellers would frequently become insulting or aggressive on the phone and continue to harass victims when they asked not to be contacted further.

One complainant said the caller became 'abusive and called me stupid' after they were asked to be removed from the marketing list.
