Residents have reacted with sadness and shock after a popular Ramsbottom bar and restaurant announced it has closed for good.

The Ramsbottom Social took to social media to thank their customers and suppliers, saying the decision to close was the 'single hardest decision we have ever made,' but it was 'right'.

In the post, owners Nic and Jo Murphy-Lun said the Covid pandemic and 'poor decisions by our government' had made the restaurant's three-year journey an 'even harder one'. "Health is wealth, and for that reason, and that reason alone, we are walking away with our heads held high and extremely proud of the successful little business in Rammy Social that we created," the post continued. "We never anticipated in opening a business where we would end up so rich in friendships from people, something that had Rammy Social never come to fruition, we wouldn't have - how lucky are we?" Ramsbottom residents rushed to the comments to express their sadness over the announcement and share happy memories of the restaurant, saying 'you did Rammy proud'. "Sad news, it was such a lovely place, good luck in your next chapter," one local wrote. "This makes me very sad, rammy social had such a beautiful vibe and I will miss it, and you!," another commented.
