Chester Zoo is facing a barrage of criticism after revealing the prices for the attraction's first-ever residential lodges, which promise the "ultimate African safari experience right here in the UK".

This includes rooms with views into the giraffe enclosures, or across a lakeside area. The announcement had been eagerly anticipated, and families rushed to check the booking site on Tuesday morning when it opened for email subscribers.
But it soon became clear that the lodges have Safari style pricing too. Chester Zoo had earlier said that prices would "start from £375 a night off season based on two people staying".
