Its a row that has gripped a community. An award-winning curry house - a favourite amongst scores of locals - going head-to-head with one of the supermarket giants.
The Pearl restaurant, on Manchester Road in Audenshaw, Tameside, has been open for two decades, having taken over the site of the old Causeway pub.
It has hosted weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and countless other celebrations. Yet the venue says their future is now hanging in the balance.
Their lease ends in 2029 and at that point, Lidl want to build a new store on the site. An outline planning application has been submitted to Tameside council.
