Work is on the cards to tackle an accident blackspot on the A75. Amey expects to submit the results of an investigation into what road safety improvements can be made at the junction with the B794 Haugh of Urr road early in the new year.
Junctions at Twynholm have also been under the spotlight in the review. The move comes after MSP Finlay Carson, local councillor Pauline Drysdale and the council pushed for improvements, with the B794 junction having seen five serious accidents last year.
Galloway and West Dumfries representative Mr Carson said: “This is very welcome news that after years and years of campaigning to have this junction improved it is finally now going to actually happen. “I am delighted that Amey has confirmed plans to introduce new safety measures at the Haugh of Urr junction where temporary warning signs are currently in place. “While dates on when this work will take place have yet to be confirmed I will be urging Amey to make it a high priority. “It is encouraging that Amey have plans in place and are presently working on a timescale when all the work will be carried out. “Anything that improves the safety and resilience record on the A75 has to be welcomed and encouraged.
It remains of paramount importance that drivers and their passengers feel safe when travelling along this route. “Amey has only really carried out routine and cycle maintenance in the last year, so news that they have a significant number of new schemes coming up has to be good for all involved.” Castle Douglas and Crocketford representative Councillor Drysdale added: “A huge number of constituents have contacted me over the last two years regarding the increasing number of accidents at the Haugh turn off, with concerns
