A major road between Manchester and Sheffield has been closed to certain vehicles due to strong winds. National Highways says the A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions to 'high sided and vulnerable vehicles' this afternoon (March 13).
The closure runs between the A57 at Hollingworth, in Tameside, and the A616 at Flouch, near Stocksbridge. Drivers of all vehicles are being warned to expect delays as a result of the closure.
National Highways says vehicles that are considered vulnerable during strong winds include motorhomes, vans, vehicles towing caravans and motorbikes - as well as buses, HGVs, tippers and transporters.
Drivers of these vehicles are being urged to use the M60, M62 and M1 instead to cross the Pennines from Manchester to South Yorkshire.
