Nikita Laing spent 14 long years struggling to come to terms with her alopecia as she tried every treatment she could to cure and hide her disease from her friends, WalesOnline reports. The condition causes hair loss, mainly on the head and face, as the immune system attacks hair follicles.

The midwife, 31, describes her diagnosis as a ''dark time in her life," with a low point coming when she tried rubbing onions on her head in a bid to regrow her hair.
