A woman's unconventional method to "rescue" her water-damaged UGG boots during the winter season has sparked debate. UGG boots, a staple of 2000s fashion, were created by Australian surfer Brian Smith.
He established the brand in 1978 after relocating to Southern California "with a dream." By the mid-80s, UGG boots had become synonymous with "SoCal beach culture," gaining popularity through surf shops from San Diego to Santa Cruz.
It wasn't long before they were seen on the feet of fashionistas and Hollywood stars, going on to gain worldwide popularity.
The brand has since diversified beyond its classic boot, offering other types of footwear, accessories, homeware and more. However, the original shoe remains a firm favourite due to its warmth and comfort – but despite being handy for winter, their soft material means they can be susceptible to damage.
