Wind farm consultation meeting invites Stirling locals to have their say on turbines plan

A renewable energy developer is inviting people to find out more about its proposal for a four-turbine wind farm in Stirling.Drummarnock Wind Farm will sit in front of the existing Craigengelt turbines and could generate up to 30 MW of electricity each year - enough to meet the needs of around 22,325 homes and offset 36,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.Wind 2 is developing the wind farm proposal on behalf of EDP Renewables (EDPR).Once operational, Wind 2 say the wind farm will provide a community benefit fund of approximately £150,000 per annum, which will be available to support local projects and initiatives.

This could include grants to make homes more energy efficient, contributions to energy bills or funding for community projects and assets.The firm’s second public exhibition is on Tuesday, April 18, at Cambusbarron Community Centre from 4-8.30pm.

A feedback form will be available for residents to give their views. Formal representations can only be made once a planning application has been submitted to Stirling Council.Wind 2 project manager Niall Hunter said: “The Drummarnock wind farm proposal comprises four turbines at 180m to tip, which will sit in front of the Craigengelt turbines.“We’ve designed the layout to minimise impacts, and it won’t extend the horizontal views of Craigengelt.“This is a good area for a wind farm.

It’s identified in Stirling Council’s local development plan as being suitable for a modest number of additional turbines, it has good wind resource and we can connect to the National Grid.”More details at: www.drummarnockwindfarm.co.uk.
