Will Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars and other Academy events for the next ten years. His ban comes after he got up on the stage at the Oscars last month and slapped host Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Academy launched an investigation into his actions and made a statement after Will decided to resign from the Academy.CNN report that Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement on Friday: "The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr.

Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.

The decision was reportedly made during a Board of Governors meeting held earlier in the day in Los Angeles. In a statement, Will broke his silence on the matter. Will said: "I accept and respect the Academy’s decision"The meeting had originally been planned to take place on April 18, but was brought forward after the actor resigned from the Academy last week.It was previously believed that the star's resignation would not prevent the actor from being nominated for future awards.Comedian Chris is yet to publicly address the slap - shutting down hecklers at comedy shows on multiple occasions since. The day after the incident occurred, Will made a statement on his Instagram apologising directly to Chris, and the Academy then launched the investigation but police were not involved as they said the 'individual involved has declined to file a police report'.
