Will Smith has been told he's allowed to keep his Oscar in the wake of his actions at the Academy Awards on Sunday 27 March where he slapped Chris Rock across the face.
While the actor is allowed to keep his award, Will, 53, has been banned from attending the Oscars for ten years. The decision comes after a 54-person Board of Governors met earlier today, Friday 8 April, to decide Will's fate. The Suicide Squad actor slapped the comedian, 57, across the face after he made a remark about Jada Pinkett Smith's fair – which she saved off as a result of her alopecia.
A statement issued by the Academy read: "The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage. "During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room.
For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented."
