They took the game to City and earned the right to move 11 points clear of the defending champions. After the game, Arne Slot, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk offered plenty of respectful words in City's direction but it was clear Liverpool's focus was firmly on a title race that doesn't look like involving City any more.
They must ensure now that they don't let anyone back into title contention - and that means continuing to respect bruised teams like City.
It's a shame Jamie Carragher couldn't show that same respect in the Sky Sports studio.
