Now the teenager has safely navigated her way through to the Olympic final in Tokyo, joining compatriots Jemma Reekie and Alexandra Bell as three GB women qualified for the women’s 800m final for the very first time.
What was so impressive from Hodgkinson was the way she paced her race, backing her kick down the final straight even as it looked like she was leaving herself too much to do.
