Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Roku Channel scripted series head Colin Davis has jumped to Sony Pictures Television Studios as the studio’s new exec VP of comedy development, Variety has confirmed. As part of the exec shuffle, back at Roku, Brian Tannenbaum has replaced Davis as head of scripted on an interim level. Davis will report to Sony Pictures TV Studios co-president Jason Clodfelter and oversee comedy development for all platforms. Davis’ team will include comedy development senior VP, animation VP Frank Ochoa and comedy development manager Jackie Wertheimer. He starts on May 1. At Roku, Davis oversaw the launch of series including the “Reno 911” reboot and Kevin Hart’s “Die Harter,” as well as the greenlight and release of the feature “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.” Davis joined Roku as part of its acquisition of Quibi content; he had previously led scripted at that very brief short-form subscription service. Before Quibi, he handled comedy development at Turner, working on shows such as “Search Party.” His interim replacement, Tannenbaum, also joined Roku from Quibi..

CNN intends to run a new promo during the heavily watched NCAA men’s basketball tournament that throws a sharp verbal elbow at Fox News Channel and the legal defamation case filed against it by Dominion Voting Systems. The promos will air starting this weekend on TNT, TBS, TruTV and CBS, all of which carry the games under a joint rights agreement held by the owners of those networks, Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery, which is also the parent of CNN. Fox News Channel is not mentioned in the promo script, reviewed by Variety, but the references are clear. “What should you expect of a news network?” asks the narrator. “Some bury the truth, while we fight to reveal the facts. The only side we are on is yours.” Viewers see images of CNN correspondents and anchors such as Abby Phillip and Clarissa Ward.

Popular BBC series The Traitors returned for a hilarious sketch for Red Nose Day, as two iconic contestants joined a a rather star-studded round table.The parody sketch began with Dawn French playing show host Claudia Winkleman, who announced: "I’m actually Claudia Winkleman - half woman, half fringe." Those sat around the table then began to remove their hoods, revealing the famous faces underneath, which included Alison Hammond, Dame Mary Berry, Steve Merchant and Danny Dyer. As the skit continued, Traitors icon Maddy Smedley was unhooded and accused those around the table of either being traitors or faithfuls.

Kind-hearted volunteer water search teams have offered a hand in the ongoing efforts to trace missing Salford grandad Peter Baglin. The 55-year-old, from Boothstown, vanished nine weeks ago after going out for an evening walk on December 28. He was last seen on CCTV cameras in a local petrol station, on the East Lancashire Road, buying a small bottle of whiskey.
