Chu announced that his upcoming film adaptation of the musical will be split into two parts.The movies, based on the hit Broadway show, will be released on Christmas Days 2024 and 2025.Chu declared in his announcement via Twitter that “it would be impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it.“As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years,” the 42-year-old filmmaker continued.Chu explained that giving themselves a “bigger canvas” with two movies will allow for the story of “Wicked” to be told “as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”Special #Wicked Movie Announcement… ✌.
