Why there has been a sharp rise in infection rates in some parts of Bolton

coronavirus infection rate in one part of Bolton surged by more than 300 percent in the space of a week. In Blackrod and Butterwick Fields, 25 cases were recorded in the week ending December 17 - an increase of 316.7pc from the week previous.

Due to the area's relatively small population size, it means that the seven day rolling infection rate is 413.5 per 100,000 people, according to the government website's interactive map tool.

According to the most recent figures, Bolton's infection rate as a whole is 154.1 per 100,000 people, making it the third lowest in Greater Manchester and well below England's average of 317.2.
