Why the Royal Family no longer call the Queen 'Lilibet'

The Queen has many different official names she goes by from Her Majesty to Queen Elizabeth II. But, at home her family has always known her as "Lilibet" being the name she gave herself when she was younger.The Queen, 96, used to be unable to pronounce the name “Elizabeth” when she was young, so dubbed herself “Lilibet” and the name stuck ever since.

The moniker is also what her husband Prince Philip sweetly used to call her and in a particularly emotional moment during his funeral a card was spotted on his coffin signed by The Queen as Lilibet.

However, since his death the name has not been used for The Queen, being one that only her husband and parents used on her. While Lilibet is not a name used for Her Majesty anymore, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle played tribute to her after the birth of their first daughter.

On June 4, Meghan and Harry welcomed baby Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor into the world. Unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton's children, Harry and Meghan decided not to give their two children royal titles, instead opting for Mountbatten-Windsor, which is the Royal Family's unofficial surname.
