Former Netherlands international Marco van Ginkel has been linked with a shock move to Rangers - 11 years on from his big money move to Chelsea.The 31-year-old is currently unattached after ending his second spell with boyhood club Vitesse at the end of last season.

It was from there that Premier League powerhouses Chelsea then forked out £8million to bring him to Stamford Bridge after a superb campaign that saw the attacking midfielder net eight Eredivisie goals, win the Dutch Player of the Year and help his side claim a fourth place finish in the league.

Van Ginkel became one of Jose Mourinho's first signings in his second stint in charge of the Blues, and reports at the time tipped the young maestro to become the next Frank Lampard.

Shortly after snapping up the playmaker, the "Special One" himself singled out the Dutchman as a hot commodity on the continent and promised him a regular starting berth. "Marco is one of the best prospects in European football right now", said Mourinho. "I have been following him for a long time.
