Why standing desks in your office may actually be bad for your health

Standing desks have become increasingly popular in offices in a bid to tackle the harms of a sedentary lifestyle sitting in front of the computer.

But researchers have found that, over the long-term, standing more compared to sitting does not improve cardiovascular health - and could increase the risk of circulatory issues such as varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis.

The study was carried out by a team from the University of Sydney and published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

Lead author Dr Matthew Ahmadi, from the Faculty of Medicine and Health, said there were other ways for those with a sedentary lifestyle to improve their cardiovascular health.
