After failing to make it through to the next round, the lads were thrown a lifeline by Simon Cowell, who had the idea to stick them together in a boy band.
And the rest as they say, is history. But while we've been able to enjoy 1D music for a whole decade now, it's been a while since we've had any new tunes.
Some fans think the band's end was spelled out when Zayn quit in 2015. The five lads were part of the biggest boyband the world had ever seen when Zayn decided to leave.
