Despite being in a relationship with him, when she attempted to break it off, he became violent. John held Delia captive, binding her to the bed for four days, after admitting to the murder of his ex-girlfriend Melissa Halstead in Amsterdam, whom he dismembered and discarded in the canal.
After one final savage assault that almost took Delia's life - while out on bail for false imprisonment - he escaped and remained on the run for several years.
During this period, Paula Fields, a 31 year old mum working at a laundrette, crossed paths with the psychopathic killer, reports Leeds Live.
