Millions of Americans are set to head to the polls after a fiercely contested battle between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump.
Making a prediction about who will become the US president is all but impossible as even the most-respected polls have not pointed to a clear winner.
As the BBC North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher puts it: "The arrows are all pointing in different directions. No one can seriously make a prediction either way...
the major polling averages, and the forecasting models that interpret them, all show this as a coin-toss contest." Both Trump and Harris have states they can probably count on to get at least 200 electoral votes, but they need to get to 270 to win.
