Boris Johnson's time as Prime Minister is hanging by a thread after a number of parties were held in Downing Street during the covid lockdown.A leadership contest could be triggered if the MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip decides to resign or he is removed through a vote of no confidence.With the number of Tory MPs who have written to the 1922 Committee to say they have no confidence in him believed to be around 35 it could be sooner rather than later that we have a new Prime Minister.The magic number is 54 to trigger a vote of no confidence in Johnson's premiership.If he steps down then there are a number of contenders who could replace him, however there isn't a stand out candidate among the Tory MPs to take them into the local elections later this year.So, who could replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister?The Chancellor is often mentioned when the conversation about who the next Prime Minister should be.Following Johnson's apology for attending a party in Downing Street in May 2020 at Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday the Cabinet rallied round him to offer their support.Sunak, who spent the day 200 miles away in Devon, took eight hours to tweet his response to the apology from the PM and it wasn't overly supportive.
