EastEnders, though she is not the only one, as she pointed out in tonight’s episode. Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) made the devastating discovery that their baby had Edwards’ Syndrome after undergoing a number of tests.
Edwards’ syndrome is a rare condition that occurs when a baby has three copies of chromosome 18, instead of the usual two. Baby’s with the condition are unlikely to live past birth, with only about 13 in 100 babies born alive living past their first birthday.
Whitney made the difficult decision to terminate her pregnancy, and delivered baby Peach in Friday’s (March 3) heartbreaking episode.
As a show of support for the grieving mother, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) decided to gather up well-wishes from Whitney’s friends, which she handed over tonight.
