Boris Johnson has unveiled his lockdown roadmap, revealing how and when Covid restrictions will be lifted in England. The government's plan will see restrictions lifted in four stages, with five weeks between each stage.
This will give officials four weeks of data to assess the impact of the changes. They will then decide whether the next stage of the roadmap can proceed as planned - and the public will get one week's notice.
There will not be a return to the tiered system that was in place at the end of 2020 - instead the whole of England will be subject to the same rules at the same time.
This means that businesses across the country will reopen (or remain closed) based on national data, and not the situation in their local area.
