And now the Tartan Army will have their eyes on the draw to find out who the nation will face in Germany. Three years ago it was fierce rivals England, Croatia and Czech Republic in what was a tough section - and one that proved too difficult to get out of.
But the squad admitted it was a learning experience and one they will hopefully have benefited from after earning their return to the big stage.
However, a slightly kinder draw would be a help in Scotland's bid to make history and reach the knockout stage of a major tournament for the first time.
