A blonde hair trend going viral for summer? It’s hardly groundbreaking news, especially since the upcoming July release of the Barbie movie is prompting people to get a Malibu-worthy look for themselves.

However, one particular blonde trend is taking off on TikTok – and it’s much less maintenance than a full head of blonde highlights. The hashtag #ScandiHairline currently has 2.5B views on the app, signalling this method of lightening strands is set to be the look of summer for many of us with blonde or light brown hair (or for those wanting a big colour transformation from dark).

If you’re looking for more info on what the look actually is and who it’s suitable for, we have everything you need to know here… What is the “Scandi hairline” technique? “The placement of colour mimics where the sun hits certain parts of the forehead,” explains Michael Gray, John Frieda UK creative stylist. “ Not only is this trend a low-cost option to make your blonde pop, but it’s also a great way to limit the damaging effects of bleach as only the baby hairs are coloured. This technique thereby gives a brighter and lighter-looking ‘halo’ effect to the rest of your hair with minimal effort needed.” So how will my colourist achieve the look? “They’ll take a small section of the hair along the hairline, better known as your baby hairs, and bleach them with a freehand lightener. This method is quick, effortless and gives a brighter appearance, whilst still achieving a natural and seamless look,” Michael adds.
