Lilibet was the Queen’s family nickname growing up and a favourite of her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh (the Queen is believed to have left a handwritten note on top of his coffin signed: “Lilibet” at his funeral in April).
To many, opting for ‘Lili’ instead of Elizabeth is seen as a particularly personal olive branch from the Sussexes towards the royals after a tense and factious year.
