The possibility that Monday’s air traffic control fault was caused by an inputting error by a French airline has not been ruled out by Downing Street.
Yesterday, a technical error caused air travel chaos as flight plans had to be input manually by controllers. Hundreds of flights were cancelled in and out of the UK due to the issue, with many more delayed.
Passengers have been warned that the disruption could last for days as aircraft and cabin crew have been displaced and are not where they need to be for scheduled departures.
Downing Street said that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) would be launching an investigation into the error, which has been confirmed to be a 'technical' problem and not a 'cybersecurity incident'.
