In 2018, the star took to Instagram to reveal that she had undergone a secret kidney transplant over the summer after a battle with lupus.

Sharing an image of herself and her friend on a hospital bed, she opened up about her experience with the disease, explaining that the transplant was: “what I needed to do for my overall health. ”Gomez, who was 25 at the time, was originally diagnosed with the disease at the age of 23.
