Manchester United's Under-19s were defeated 3-1 against Barcelona in a behind-closed-doors friendly. The club confirmed earlier this week they had managed to organise an academy friendly with Barcelona, to coincide with the first-team’s Europa League fixture, and the match was played on Thursday morning at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

United, who were captained by full-back Marc Jurado, were drawing 1-1 with Barcelona at half-time, but Marc Guiu and Lamine Yamal scored in the last five minutes of the match to ensure a 3-1 victory for the home side. The following players were confirmed participants in the match: Radek Vitek, Marc Jurado, Dan Gore, Tom Huddlestone, Sonny Aljofree, Sam Murray, Omari Forson, Toby Collyer, Isak Hansen-Aarøen, Maximillian Oyedele.

Ahead of the fixture, the head of the academy, Nick Cox, said: “We are always looking to innovate and provide world-class experiences for our players.

We have arranged this fixture to enhance our existing games programme, supplement our volume of fixtures and expose players to the types of experiences that they will have should they reach our first team. “Coming up against a team of this quality is an amazing opportunity but the boys will also learn what it means to represent Manchester United in Europe. "Playing in a different environment, a new stadium, maybe a different climate and against an alternative style of play is all part of their learning and development process.
