Steven Davis still hoped to play a part for Rangers despite his horror injury last season but the club hero probably didn't see him helping in the way he will in Cyprus - standing in the dug-out managing his boyhood club.
But that's the position he finds himself in as the 38-year-old looks to try and bring a bit of calm to the club after a chaotic week.
The axe fell on Michael Beale following a disastrous start to the season, the final straw coming after the 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Now Davis has at least two games to pick up the depleted Light Blues troops, starting with the Europa League Group C clash against Aris Limassol.
