Rangers will take part in the first Champions League group stage game for 12 years when they take on Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday evening as Giovanni van Bronckhorst prepares to travel back to his homeland in search of all three points.
Since Rangers ' last group stage match, they've won the Scottish Premiership, been sent to Scottish League Two, come all the way back up again, won the top-flight once more and even reached a Europa League Final.
But now comes the biggest test of all; fighting amongst Europe's elite in the Continent's most prestigious competition. They take on four-times winners Ajax, who have largely failed to impress in recent years in the Champions League bar their infamous semi-final run in 2019.
The Dutch giants have only reached the knockout stages twice in the last 12 years, in which the second of those was last years' ignominy exit to Benfica in the round of 16.Rangers have never met the reigning Eredivisie champions in a competitive fixture before, with their only meeting previously coming in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox back in 2007 which ended in a 1-1 draw.
