"What are they hiding?" Manchester council row erupts before crucial bailiff meeting

A row has erupted over the release of a council report on the use of bailiffs ahead of a crucial meeting. The next meeting of Manchester City Council’s resource and governance scrutiny committee is set to cover the use of bailiffs by the authority to collect debts, including when residents get behind on their council tax payments.

It’s thought the committee will commission a feasibility study into abandoning the use of ‘enforcement agents’. It follows the long-running campaign from community union ACORN to ‘Boot The Bailiffs’.
