The West Lothian Special Needs Children’s Taxi Outing is back this year for its fourth event after being cancelled for two years.West Lothian taxi driver, Eddie Miller, and his wife, Helen, founded the taxi tour for kids with special needs in 2017 - where local school kids are taken for a day out around Livingston filled with fun activities. The last outing in West Lothian took place in 2019, as it was unable to go ahead with Covid-19 restrictions in both 2019 and 2020.This year’s event will take place on Monday, May 2.Eddie Millar said: “It’ll be great to have the taxi outing again this year.“We’re all really looking forward to it.“We’ve not been able to put it on for two years thanks to covid.“To restart things we’re keeping it a bit smaller to stay on the safe side but next year we hope to have a bigger outing than ever.“It wouldn’t have been possible without the help from all the volunteers who’ve put so much effort into the whole thing - from Jackie Galloway and Fiona Hendry at Morisson’s to Margaret Dickson and Alan Lamont on the committee - and so many others who’ve helped.”This year, the procession of around 20 taxis will start to arrive at Livingston’s Tony Macaroni Arena around 10am on May 2.Taxi drivers, kids and parents will then tour West Lothian at 11am for around an hour, arriving at Livingston Rugby Club for a fun afternoon of face painting, entertainers, bouncy castles, and barbeques. There will be prizes given out to the best fancy dressed child, adult, taxi driver, and taxi.Local police will also support the procession this year, clearing a path for the taxi convoy on their motorbikes. The event is supported by local volunteers including those from Morrison’s branches around West Lothian.Community
