West Lothian gets ready to party as Platinum Jubilee celebrations kick off

People across West Lothian are marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as celebrations kick off.A beacon was lit yesterday (Thursday) that saw West Lothian will join a global chain of beacons that lit of the sky to mark the Monarch’s 70 years on the throne.Schools will be closed today and council staff given an extra day’s holiday to mark the anniversary and enable them to take part in community celebrations.Tea parties, street parties and other celebrations are also taking place to mark the special occasion.These included a Jubilee Jamboree with afternoon tea which was held in the Blackburn Partnership Centre and was a great success.

A successful application to the Community Choices fund by Blackburn Gala Day and Community Action Blackburn funded three events in Blackburn for ‘Recycled Teenagers’.The charity Jak’s Den in Livingston is hosting a Jubilee Fun Day and Big Bake Off today from 2pm to 4pm and entry is £1 per person that gets them a scone and cuppa.Entry to bake off is free and there will also be performances from Star Harmonies and Livingston Ukulele Band and craft tables and lucky dips for Kids plus merchandise table.Armadale Methodist Church is also hosting a jubilee tea party for locals.Are you hosting a special jubilee event?
