West Lothian family celebrate the birth of baby Grace marking five living generations

A family from Addiewell celebrated a birth marking the start of the fifth living generation in their family – with the oldest member being 80 and the youngest just a few days old.Grace Sweeney was born on April 30 this year – marking the beginning of the fifth living generation in the family.Her dad is 24-year-old Jordan Sweeney.Grace’s granny and Jordan’s mum, Pamela Sweeney, is 41 and works as a carer at a nursing home.And she is ecstatic to become a gran at such a young age.Pamela said: “I never thought it was that big of a deal, but loads of people said to me it was.“We were young when we had kids I suppose – my mum was only 33 when she became a granny.“My gran is 80 and turning 81 in October this year and she’s absolutely over the moon to have a great-great-grandchild.

She told me that she never thought she would see the day!”The family have all fallen in love with their newest addition and Pamela added: “Grace is a wee cutie and she’s doing great.“She was born on April 30 and we all can’t get enough of her.“We all just feel so lucky to have her.”And she is so proud of the way Jordan has taken to becoming a dad.She said: “My son’s taken to it like a duck to water – but Grace will have a long list for babysitters waiting in line.“We all just can’t get enough of her!”Grace Sweeney’s great-gran is 58 year-old Alison Johnston, and her great-great-gran is 80-year-old Helen Cowan.Having five living generations in a single family is very rare.The most living generations ever recorded for any family was found in a US family in 1989 with seven living generations – just two more generations than the Sweeney family in West Lothian.
