When Bathgate councillor Harry Cartmill visited his GP with a pain in his back he did not think much of it.At 53 years old he had never been ill in his life.He had been experiencing problems with his back over the last 10 years and thought it was no more than a slipped disc.But last September Harry was given the devastating news that he had blood cancer, which was attacking his joints and bones.Harry said he went swiftly from regularly cycling to Edinburgh to being admitted to St John’s Hospital for chemotherapy, something that left him feeling “devastated”.He told the Courier: “I thought I had simply strained something or at worst had a partially slipped disc.
