The 24-year-old moved to the University of Bolton Stadium on loan from Premier League side West Ham United in the January transfer window.
He went on to nail down a first choice starting place in Ian Evatt's side in the second half of the campaign, making a total of 21 appearances.
Afolayan played across the attack for Wanderers and scored his first goal for the club on the final day of the season in a 4-1 victory away to Crawley Town which confirmed Bolton's automatic promotion out of League Two.
