The 25-year-old left-back joined Wanderers in the January transfer window on loan from Championship side Swansea City. He went on to establish himself as a first choice selection for Ian Evatt during the second half of the campaign in the back four, playing 21 appearances and scoring two goals as Bolton sealed automatic promotion back to League One.
John was out of contract at the Liberty Stadium this summer and has now put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.
