A long-awaited decision about the future of the Clean Air Zone in Greater Manchester has been widely criticised by campaigners.
The government announced on Thursday (January 23) that no motorists would be charged under the new plans, ending a three-year row over the controversial scheme.
Taxis, vans, buses and lorries that do not meet emissions standards had been set to face daily fees. But the plans were paused following a huge public backlash in 2022, months before the scheme was due to start.
Local leaders have since called for an 'investment-led' approach, including funding to upgrade vehicles, arguing that no motorists should have to pay.
