Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes Wayne Rooney would be "absolutely brilliant" as a striker coach for his former club.

Former United striker Rooney is currently out of work after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle on New Year's Eve. Appointed last summer, he left the club with them sat bottom of the Championship table after a run of one win in 14 matches.

Rooney has struggled to make his mark as a manager, experiencing an underwhelming time at Birmingham City last season, being sacked after just 15 games at the helm.

His spell in charge, which was between mid-October and the start of January, played a massive part in Birmingham's relegation to League One.
